A Quote from Tom Eddleman about Pricing

Tom is an Experienced Sandcarver who is well respected by all the members of the Sandcarver's forum.

The two ways to go into sandcarving are as a business or as a hobby. If we are to do this as a business we have to make a profit. Otherwise we might as well work for the other guy and by his rules. One of the mistakes a lot of us have made is to not charge enough for our work. I've had very few quotes turned down because of price, whether it was a non profit job or not. That tells me that I leave money on the table. Charging what I deem a reasonable price that nets me a decent profit is my goal, and not gouging the customer. That's the way I think all business should run.

On the other hand if a person wants to do this as a hobby he should also make a profit. There are several reasons for this. First off is the possibility that that someday he just might turn it into a business and it's harder to go up on prices than down. It's also work whether you enjoy it as I do or not. By not charging a profit the established sandcarvers in the area are subjected to unfair competition. You're taking money from their pockets. If you need their help they will be less likely to want to help you.

Satisfaction Guaranteed!

Here is a sample of a custom request we got when we first started. It was a coworker of a family member, so the customer didn't get to speak to me directly. The customer wrote down the idea on a piece of note paper, and said "Can TexRocks do a design like this?".
We returned the following day with a computer printout, and asked them if that was what they had in mind.

As you can see, the customer then made a few, more changes and sent it back.
I think you will have to agree that the finished garden stone is what the customer asked for, and more.

Here is the finished stone.
The finished stone

That reminds me.
Here is an important warning for digital camera users. I had an HP digital camera, and it ate batteries like crazy. I got tired of the expense of feeding this camera batteries, so I went out at bought some NiMH rechargeable batteries. The batteries blew the motherboard in the camera. Going back over the user's guide, I found that these NiMH rechargeable batteries void the warranty. Do not Use NIMH batteries if the user's guide says not to.

Now we have a Fuji digital, and they approve of NiMH batteries.

There are LIMITS to the sizes we can do. About 30 inches at the base, or it won't fit our cabinet. We have done a couple of Supersize Texas rocks, but those are not for residences.
