Dallas Open Kendo Tournament, April 21, 2007

Kendo participants came from Omaha, Arkansas, New York, Houston, San Antonio, Laredo, Austin and Dallas. This is the beginning of the match. The opponents bow in, and the fight begins.
The still pictures just don't show you enough. Here are some small avi clips that show a small portion of the match.
  • Score! Ian scores a Kote point. In general, Kote means the right one (i.e. the right wrist of the opponent). If this were a real fight, with real swords, the opponent would be rendered defenseless.
  • Defense and offense. Ian maneuvers his wheelchair with one hand, while maintaining his sword in a defensive stance. He also can attack.
  • Bow Out. When the opponent scores two points, the match is ended.

More information on scoring Kendo can be found at the Houston Kendo webstite.
